DIY chain Focus has appointed Penny Teale as its commercial director.

Previously she was managing director of her own retail management consultancy Magic Roundabout. Before that she was Sainsbury's business unit director for general merchandise and health and beauty.

She replaces Gary West who has left the business to spend more time with his family. He has been in the position since July 2007.

Teale has also held posts at Argos, B&Q and Homebase. She begins her new role on February 2.

Focus chief executive Bill Grimsey said: “While we are sad to see Gary West go we remain fully supportive of his decision and wish him the very best of luck for the future. We look forward to welcoming Penny Teale to our team and are confident she will inspire the company to new heights.”
