Bookseller Foyles is to open its first shop outside London for 70 years, in Bristol’s Cabot Circus.
It will be the sixth shop for the independent bookseller, and will open in early March, covering 5,500 sq ft across two floors.
The retailer plans to have a café, performance area and back-office functions on the upper floor while the ground floor will sell books.
Foyles chief executive Sam Husain said the retailer is “thrilled” to bring Foyles’ “big values, bold ideas and bookselling prowess” to Bristol.
Foyles opened a shop in the City of London’s new shopping centre One New Change in November. It also operates its flagship store is on Charing Cross Road as well as shops at the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank, in St Pancras International and in Westfield London.
Land Securities managing director for retail Richard Akers said: “The retail experience that Foyles offer represents a unique addition to Cabot Circus. Foyles has an award-winning reputation that blends perfectly within Quakers Friars - the restored historic area of Cabot Circus.”
In the year to June 30 Foyles’ operating profits increased five-fold from £80,625 to £434,588. Turnover grew 1.9% to £23.1m while like-for-likes jumped 9.7%.
EBITDA rocketed from £597,106 to £999,337 in the period.
