Gavin Peck

Gavin Peck is Chief Executive Officer of The Works. He joined the Group in 2018 as Chief Financial Officer to oversee the successful IPO of the business the same year and was promoted to CEO in January 2020. Since becoming CEO, Gavin has overseen the creation and delivery of The Works’ ‘better, not just bigger’ strategy, driving a business operating model transformation and significant improvements to its customer proposition, such as overhauling its book strategy to stock more front-list titles. Under his leadership, the business has redefined its purpose to “inspire reading, learning, creativity and play – making lives more fulfilled” and has undergone a brand evolution across its stores and digital channels to reflect the engaging, fun and refreshed business The Works is today.

Prior to joining The Works, Gavin was Commercial Director at Card Factory where he was responsible for the commercial function and leadership of the commercial finance team. Gavin played an integral role in the growth of the business from 530 stores generating £56 million EBITDA to a portfolio of over 900 stores generating close to £100 million EBITDA, and worked alongside the CEO and CFO during the company’s successful IPO in 2014.

Gavin is a chartered accountant and started his career at PwC where he spent eight years working in the audit and corporate finance departments. He has a BsC in Economics from The London School of Economics (LSE).
