Retail Week looks ahead to next week with trading updates from floorings specialist Carpetright and Dixons Carphone on the agenda.
Carpetright
The floorings specialist posts a third-quarter trading update on Tuesday.
Carpetright reported a 34.3% surge in interim profits in the six months to October 31 and a 3.7% advance in like-for-likes.
The retailer is carrying out a raft of initiatives to modernise its offer and closed a net 22 stores in the second quarter to reduce catchment overlap and property costs.
It is also piloting new-format stores and focusing on improving customer service.
Dixons Carphone
The electricals giant posts Christmas trading figures on Tuesday.
The retailer will hope to build on its half-year results when like-for-likes rose 5% and profits jumped 23%.
Other electricals retailers have had mixed results over Christmas.
Argos’ like-for-likes fell 2.2% in the 18 weeks to January 2 while Ao.com reported a 24% rise in UK sales in the period to December 2015.
Card Factory
The greeting cards and gifts specialist is releasing its Christmas trading figures on Tuesday.
The retailer will hope to maintain momentum from its update on the nine months to October.
Over the period, Card Factory reported an uplift in like-for-like sales and a 7.9% rise in its total sales.
Rival retailer Paperchase had a very strong performance over the Christmas period, reporting a leap of 5.9% in like-for-likes and total sales up 11.2% over the five weeks to December 27.
