Halfords is to start selling mobility scooters and wheelchairs to take advantage of the growing older population.
The cycling and motoring accessory specialist hopes to take a share of the £500m mobility market and will sell the ranges on its website and in 65 of its stores.
With one in three people in Briton expected to be over 60 by 2024 it is a sector that is constantly growing.
The retailer said prices for electric scooters will start at £522, excluding VAT with prices for wheelchairs start at £120.
Halfords development manager Keith Scott said: “Our research confirms that 89 per cent of less able customers would like to see mobility aids more widely available and accessible. In our view too many mobility aids are bought online or through mail order and we believe we can provide a far superior customer experience backed up by powerful service benefits.”
