Halfords has entered into the DIY home security market as it prepares to sell CCTV cameras and alarm systems.
The move bolsters the car part and cycle specialist’s technology category which includes products such as sat-nav and digital radios.
Initially, from July 18, Halfords will trial the 100 new products online and in 21 stores as it gauges customer preferences.
Halfords said its keen to take a slice of the market which is estimated to be worth £84m, as security systems become “increasingly relevant” for customers who own premium bikes and cars.
Halfords product manager David Hammond said: “Security is a natural extension for us as a business because these products complement those that we already offer for taking care of your car or bike – which for many people is a cherished and valuable asset.”
Products will include CCTV and passive infra-red lighting alarms and locks to help guard homes, garages, driveways and sheds.
