Retail Diary: Cricketer Stuart Broad’s unexpected delivery, Halfords’ tight squeeze, Waterstones gears up for Trigger Mortis

Stuart Broad swaps wickets for Waitrose

Broad Waitrose card

England cricket hero Stuart Broad was the recipient of an unexpected item when he unpacked his online grocery shopping from Waitrose last week.

The Nottinghamshire bowler, who played a key role in helping his country regain the Ashes from Australia during the summer, was hit for six when he opened a congratulatory card signed by staff from the grocer’s Wollaton store.

Broad took to Twitter to post this image of the card, along with the words: “Such a nice touch from Waitrose Wollaton store lovely signed card with my online shopping!” It seems both parties share a mutual admiration for each other’s deliveries.

Tight squeeze

Halfords

They aim to go the extra mile for customers, but a Halfords lorry was stuck in its tracks when it became wedged under a bridge less than a mile away from a previous incident.

True to form, the “We Fit” vehicle squeezed itself into the tight spot in southeast London, just 500 yards from another crossing it had been trapped under last October. Perhaps a different delivery route is in order?

Trigger Mortis

Bond

Waterstones is aiming to leave James Bond fans shaken but not stirred with the launch of Anthony Horowitz’s new novel ‘Trigger Mortis’, inspired by the world’s most famous spy.

From September 7 visitors can unlock codes and solve clues in a series of Bond-style challenges as part of a week-long interactive experience at Waterstones Piccadilly.
