The move has fuelled speculation that another bidder may be set to make a rival offer for the chain against the£40 million indicative offer made by Baugur in February.
Hanson said that the families, who hold a 26 per cent stake in the business, and have openly apposed a takeover by Baugur, were “holding out for a higher offer.” He added that he did not want to “get involved in a free-for-all.”
Last week a mystery investor bought a 7.9 per cent stake in Moss Bros adding yet another twist to the turbulent fight for the 150-chain retailer.
Laura Ashley has also been stake building in the company amassing a 5.96 per cent share in recent months. It is now believed that a Swedish company and an Egyptian company are also in the frame to make a possible offer.
