The administrator of Oddbins has sold 37 stores and its assets to European Food Brokers, which trades as Whittall’s Wine Merchants.
Administrator Deloitte concluded the deal over the Easter bank holiday weekend. The deal includes the Oddbins business, but not the brand. It is thought another buyer is close to finalising a deal to buy the brand.
Whittall’s Wine Merchants claims to be the largest independent privately-owned wine retailer in the UK.
The remainder of the chain’s 89 stores also remain up for sale.
Lee Manning, joint administrator and partner at Deloitte, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce this sale and confirm the securing of 200 jobs. We are currently engaged in a range of discussions regarding the sale of the remaining 48 open stores and are confident of an imminent deal.”
Oddbins fell into administration last month after its plans for a CVA were thwarted by creditors including HM Revenue & Customs.
