Aldi has upped its pay rates for warehouse workers for the second time this year and boosted premium payments for night shift staff.
Hourly paid staff in Aldi’s distribution centres will receive at least £12.66 per hour from September – a 9% increase on the wages they were receiving in January.
All employees working in Aldi’s logistics function outside of normal operating hours will also see their night premium payments increase from 20% to 25% of the normal hourly rate.
Around 4,200 workers will benefit from the pay increase.
It is the second time that Aldi’s warehouse staff have had their pay increased in 2022, following the annual pay review that came into effect from February.
The move comes less than a month after Aldi hiked the pay of its 26,000 shopfloor staff to reclaim its position as the UK’s highest-paying supermarket chain.
The discounter said all store assistants would receive a 40p-per-hour increase in their pay to a minimum of £10.50 per hour across the UK, and £11.95 within the M25, from September.
Aldi UK and Ireland boss Giles Hurley said: “This announcement recognises the amazing contribution our logistics colleagues make in serving communities across the country.
“We’re also pleased to be able to increase the night premium we pay to our many colleagues who work so hard to keep our stores well stocked. Their outstanding efforts help ensure that our customers continue to have access to fresh affordable food, every single day.”
