Amazon Go is set to open in London’s West End, allowing shoppers to purchase their items without having to go through a checkout.
The store opening is being led by Amazon’s US team, according to The Sunday Telegraph, which first reported the news.
Amazon is thought to have been searching for sites between 3,000 and 5,000 sq ft for several months.
The store would be the first of its kind outside the US. The online giant already runs seven stores across Seattle, Chicago and San Francisco. Another is reportedly set to open in New York.
Amazon Go works in tandem with an app on a customer’s phone. Customers scan a code on their way into a shop and are then tracked by cameras and facial recognition software as they move around a store. When they leave, their credit or debit card is automatically charged.
