After a successful trial, Asda is beginning the roll-out of its refill scheme to more stores across the UK.
The launch in Toryglen in Glasgow follows Asda’s initial refill station that opened in Leeds in October last year.
The supermarket has partnered with household brands such as Kellogg’s and Unilever to offer a range of 60 refillable goods alongside its own-brand staples.
Customers shopping in the store will be able to bring their own containers to buy unpackaged goods including Kellogg’s Cornflakes and Coco Pops, Yorkshire Tea, 12 different types of pasta, and a range of shampoos and conditioners including Herbal Essences and Head & Shoulders.
The store will also offer Unilever products such as Alberto Balsam shampoo, Radox shower gel and Persil laundry detergent in prefilled packaging, where customers can receive a voucher of £2 or £3 if they return the bottle to store after use.
Asda has revealed the next two stores to have refill stations added will be Milton Keynes and York, which will open before the end of the year.
Asda director of commercial sustainability Susan Thomas said: “We have chosen Scotland as the location for our second refill store because it is an important market for Asda and a place where we regularly receive constructive feedback from our customers.
“This feedback is very important to us as we refine our refill offering in stores and work towards a goal of making refill and reuse part of every shopping trip.
“With COP26 coming to Glasgow, there has certainly been an increase in interest in environmental issues across the country, so to see refill land in the host city and with such engaged customers is a really important moment for us.”
