Brand Cellar, a company set up to relaunch some of Britain’s best known names, is to revive the famous butchers Dewhurst brand.
Brand Cellar has raised around £5m to invest in either defunct or forgotten brands. It has already bought 111 brands and sub-brands, including Dewhurst butchers, the Zorbit Terry Towelling nappy brand and a controlling stake in Conway Stewart, the century-old fountain pen company.
A YouGov survey, commissioned by Brand Cellar, put Dewhurst as third among the most-missed retailers that have closed over the past decade.
At its peak, Dewhurst had 1,400 outlets on the high street. It collapsed into administration in 2006.
Brand Cellar’s ambition is to snap up a collection of well-loved brands, spend money on refreshing them and licence them out to partners or manufacturers. It will make a return by being paid royalty fees.
Brand Cellar, founded by a trio of leading advertising and marketing executive including former Kwik Save boss David Birchall, has financial backing from some of Britain’s best known businessmen.
