Online butcher Farmison, which was rescued from administration by ex-Asda boss Andy Clarke, has appointed former Marks & Spencer and Asda executive Andy Adcock as chief executive.

Adcock, who was M&S director of food for three years until 2018 and was previously Asda brand director, starts at Farmison today to lead the business back to success.

His appointment coincided with the recruitment of 40 staff at its Ripon headquarters as the etailer rebuilds following its administration in April – another 55 staff will be hired by autumn –  and the launch of a partnership with rapid delivery specialist GoPuff in London.

Farmison has also re-established relationships with suppliers of the heritage breeds in which it specialises, developed new products to extend its range, relaunched its subscription service and introduced free weekend delivery.

Farmison executive chair Clarke said: “We’ve made incredible progress over the last 50 days. While there’s still plenty of work to do, our objective is to make sure Farmison comes back stronger than before. That’s why we’re investing in new ranges, enhanced service and new partnerships that bring more access to the incredible meat we offer.

“I’ve every confidence [Andy] will bring even more momentum as we build a sustainable future for our business.”

Clarke led the acquisition of Farmison with fellow investor Gareth Whittle, who was behind the success of the Rekorderlig cider brand in the UK.
