Waitrose is trialling a new garden centre unit adjacent to its existing supermarket in Newbury, Berkshire.
The grocer has opened the unit on the same site as its Oxford Road store to capitalise on shoppers looking for larger goods than its existing horticultural products.
Waitrose currently sells flowers and plants in store and also sells flowers online through its Waitrose Direct website which sells flowers, wine, hampers and gifts.
A Waitrose spokeswoman said: “Waitrose has an established flower and plant offer and we are exploring ways of extending this at our Newbury branch with a modest unit close to our shop.”
