Frozen food specialist Iceland has invited those at risk of redundancy at both Sainsbury’s and Morrisons to apply for one of 600 roles it currently has vacant.
Iceland has a mixture of full- and part-time roles on offer covering roles in retail staff, home delivery drivers, and management roles at its head office in Deeside, North Wales.
An Iceland spokesperson said: “While many in the retail sector are facing tough decisions, we’re proud to be creating opportunities and expanding our team as we grow across the UK.
“These roles reflect our ongoing commitment to investing in our business, our people, and doing the right thing by all those who make Iceland what it is today. We invite experienced retail staff and talented managers to come and join our team.”
The retailer’s offer comes at the end of week in which first Sainsbury’s and then Morrisons announced they would both be slashing jobs.
On January 23, Sainsbury’s said it would be cutting 3,000 jobs, as it closed its remaining cafes, hot food and pizza counters and patisserie, alongside reducing senior management headcount by 20% to simplify the business and cut costs.
Morrisons also announced it would be cutting 200 jobs across retail people team including positions in customer experience, employee engagement, recruitment, and payroll.
