Specialist wine retailer Majestic is rewarding employees with additional time off during the Christmas and New Year period.
Majestic said all 208 of its stores in England, Scotland and Wales will be closed for an extra day on January 2, allowing its employees to “spend even more quality time with their family and friends during the festive season.”
It marks the second time in the past three years that the retailer has closed its shops on January 2, with stores also remaining closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Happy place
In April, Majestic made its “biggest-ever investment” in colleague pay, as it increased hourly pay rates ahead of the national minimum wage to £10.60.
The retailer has been shortlisted in the Happiest Place to Work category for the second year in a row at the Retail Week Awards 2024.
Giving back
Chief executive John Colley said: “2023 has been another turbulent year for retail, but our business has continued to move ahead during ongoing economic uncertainty. That is something that would not have been possible without the hard work of all our colleagues, and for that the board and our shareholders are very grateful.”
To further express his thanks to his workforce, Colley added: “Rewarding our colleagues with these days off is the right thing to do to allow everyone to make the most of the Christmas break, and come back to work fully refreshed in the new year.”
