Majestic Wine has poached its new chief financial officer from fashion retailer Oasis, as it looks to establish itself as an independent business under the ownership of a private equity firm.
The bricks-and-mortar wine specialist has today appointed Alex Jablonowski to the newly created position of chief financial officer, the latest in a string of new hires at the newly independent business.
Jablonowski joins Majestic Wine from Oasis and Warehouse Group and previously worked at Hamleys, Tesco and Costa Coffee.
Majestic also recently appointed Robert Cooke as chief commercial officer and Suzanne Kielty as HR director.
Chief executive John Colley said rebuilding Majestic Wine’s senior management team would be vital to the long-term future of the business, having been bought by US private equity firm Fortress in August.
Chief executive John Colley said: “Alex brings a wealth of experience to Majestic, having worked in a range of international, multi-site retail businesses. I am sure his background in helping to build business strategies at the very top level with previous private equity experience will be hugely beneficial in order to create value and growth for this company.
“The recent changes we have made to the board show our commitment to getting Majestic back to what it’s done best. We now have a range of expertise across the senior team, with specialists in retail, wine, HR and developing our multichannel capability. I am confident that we’ve built the right team for the challenges and opportunities of the future.”
Retail Week understands that Jablonowski was placed in the role by retail recruitment firm Clarity Search.
