Marks & Spencer is set to trial more grab-and-go food and drink options in its cafe as it looks to win lunchtime customers from rivals like Pret a Manger, The Telegraph has reported.

All food options in M&S cafes will be available to take away as the high street giant looks to win over younger shoppers and lunchtime customers from other coffee chains.

M&S said it will also be training its kitchen staff to speed up food preparation as well as improving technology so it is faster for shoppers to place orders.

The news comes after the high street giant noted a “really encouraging” performance from new cafes in Dundee and Fosse Park, Leicester, which opened a few weeks ago.

The revamp forms part of M&S’ plans to increase market share as it looks to “build on our position as one of the top high street cafes”.

Last week, the high street giant announced plans to open a fashion-only store at Battersea Power Station in London to target younger shoppers as sales from the demographic increased.
