Supermarket chain Morrisons has said it will create 1,000 new jobs to help it fulfil orders on its services with Amazon and Amazon Prime.
The retailer said it would be creating the roles to help pick and pack grocery orders on Amazon from 50 of its stores across the UK.
Morrisons said: “Successful candidates will work as part of a delivery team in stores, ensuring that orders are picked and packed correctly and customer service standards are maintained.”
Head of Amazon at Morrisons Hannah Horsfall said: “At Morrisons, we’re doing everything we can to ensure everyone can order our great value food and have it delivered to their doorstep. We’re looking for team players with good customer service skills that can play their full part in helping to feed the nation.”
The hiring spree comes after the grocer ramped up its partnership with the US etail and tech giant in mid-August.
Amazon installed a ‘Morrisons on Amazon’ platform on its main website, enabling shoppers to purchase groceries that way for the first time.
The platform began in Leeds but has since been quickly rolled out to 50 stores.
Morrisons also sells online through partnerships with Ocado and Deliveroo.
Amazon has sold food for several years but has so far not built a scale business to rival the established grocers. However, it has made it increasingly clear that food is a target for growth.
