Morrisons has launched home delivery subscription boxes for customers to keep up with the growing demand for grocery deliveries.
The retailer said customers will be able to sign up for weekly, fortnightly or monthly deliveries of food boxes, without needing to book delivery slots, in a bid to continue feeding the nation as the UK goes into winter and further coronavirus restrictions.
For customers using its existing food boxes who wish to move onto the subscription service, Morrisons will give a 5% discount. The grocer said it had set aside a new fulfilment warehouse in Wakefield, Yorkshire, to focus solely on producing and shipping the food boxes.
For customers using a subscription for the first time, Morrisons is offering a 20% discount.
A spokeswoman for the retailer said Morrisons had seen a 56% increase in demand for food boxes over the last week, with coronavirus cases rising across the UK.
Morrisons launched food boxes in March to help customers get access to fresh groceries following government guidelines on shielding.
The retailer said the new subscription service will offer a range of different options including a “Feed a Family Recipe Box” to feed a family of four for five days.
Morrisons director of food to order Aidan Buckley said: “Customers use our food box service to get fresh food and cupboard essentials delivered to their doorstep quickly. We are making the service simpler and even better value to ensure everyone can get access to affordable food at this difficult time.”
