Planet Organic’s owners are considering a sale of the healthy eating specialist.
Planet Organic has appointed Spayne Lindsay to assess buyer interest, The Sunday Telegraph reported.
Planet Organic, which may attract a price tag of £50m, is thought to have drawn the interest of potential Japanese trade buyers and private-equity houses. The sale of a stake is being considered alongside a full sale.
Planet Organic was launched in 1991 by Renée Elliott, who took inspiration from health food stores in her native US to create a British counterpart.
The retailer subsequently won investment from industry names including former Marks & Spencer director Alan Smith, ex-Space NK boss David Krantz and Fenn Wright Manson founder Colin Fenn.
Planet Organic, which is expected to generate sales of about £35m this year, draws 60% of its shoppers from the much-sought-after millennial market whose interest in health and wellbeing have driven demand for products such as chia seeds and avocados.
