Turkish fast grocery delivery company Getir has signed a deal to purchase UK rival Weezy in a move that ’further solidifies Getir’s long-term commitment to the UK market.’
The acquisition will see Getir absorb Weezy’s current staff of 700, as well as its four UK fulfilment centres. The financial terms of the deal between the two rapid delivery companies were not disclosed.
Both Getir and Weezy formed part of the wave of rapid delivery services that gained popularity and investor interest over the pandemic.
Getir, which launched in 2015, currently operates in several countries across western Europe, as well as in the US. It launched in the UK in January.
Founded in 2019, Weezy has operations within cities across the UK, although last week it closed five of its dark stores. It had reported losses of £676,000 in 2020 despite the rise in interest in rapid delivery due to restrictions.
