Tesco and Asda have upped their focus on customer service over the Christmas period as shoppers are expected to rush to the shops next week.
Tesco said it had introduced 4,000 ‘here to help’ colleagues across all of its UK stores to help customers find products and last-minute Christmas presents as part of its Feet on the Floor programme.
The ‘here to help’ staff are made up of existing staff and seasonal workers.
Christmas greeters will also be present in 700 of the grocer’s bigger stores to help point customers in the right direction.
Some 5,000 head office colleagues will also be spreading the cheer by taking part in the initiative.
Customer focus
Asda said it had pumped an additional £4m into customer service for the last two weeks of Christmas shopping, introducing 8,000 ‘go-getters for gorgetters’ into its 601 stores, to help customers quickly find products before Christmas.
Asda director of people and stores Hayley Tatum said: “We introduced our ‘go-getters for forgetters’ in a handful of stores five years ago to get anything customers had forgotten without keeping others waiting at the tills.
“This Christmas, we’ve invested an additional £4m into customer service for the busiest two weeks of the year meaning customers have more help than ever before.”
Tesco UK retail director Tony Hoggett said: “We all know what a busy time Christmas can be, so our colleagues will be on hand to help in any way they can, whether that’s helping to find that last minute Christmas present or greeting customers with that extra bit of festive cheer.”
For the first time, Tesco’s 1,700 Express convenience stores will each have a dedicated colleague on Christmas Eve to help customers.
