Tesco has kicked off a trial in its Bethnal Green Metro store in London offering customers the chance to shop in store and have their goods delivered later.
The trial, called Shop&Go, sees customers leave their goods at the checkout, then pick a one-hour delivery slot. The goods are stored in the grocer’s warehouse until delivery.
Tesco managing director for London Andrew Yaxley said: “We are always thinking of ways to make life easier for London shoppers – it is why we are currently trialling a service called Shop&Go at our Bethnal Green store. Customers shop at the store as normal, spend at least £35, and then we deliver their shopping for free on the same day. It is perfect for customers who can’t easily get their shopping home and has already been a huge hit.”
Shop&Go has a minimum spend of £35, then delivery is free. It currently has five delivery slots per day between 3pm and 10pm. The service is available within a three-mile radius.
Tesco said initial feedback had been positive and it would consider extending the number of delivery slots available, then consider rolling it out to other stores.
Tesco has also just rolled out contactless payment to all 500 stores in London, across 6,000 terminals.
The grocer is also trialling six Click & Collect stations in London where shoppers pick up their groceries on the way home from work.
