Grocery giant Tesco has today launched its Accelerator Programme for up-and-coming brands, naming the first 27 suppliers to benefit from the scheme.
The programme replaces Tesco’s old Incubator Programme and will stock items from the new suppliers in Tesco stores and online, and will help “accelerate [their] growth with Britain’s biggest supermarket”.
Tesco said data insights show that “innovation is important to customers” and noted that the participating brands have been “carefully selected to feed into emerging product trends, including health and sustainability, the demand for speciality products that cater to the communities Tesco operates in, as well as values-driven brands which actively give back to their communities.”
To support the brands, Tesco said it has set up a dedicated innovation buying team. The chosen brands will also have access to “a comprehensive year-long programme of mentoring, learning and development focusing on growth.”
Tesco chief commercial officer Ashwin Prasad said: “Our customers love to try innovative new products, whether that’s a speciality product they can’t get anywhere else, or a brand that has sustainability at its heart, so it’s a real pleasure to launch this expanded programme, helping to support the development and growth of exciting brands at Tesco. We’re really looking forward to working with these brands and the brilliant teams behind them, and I wish each of them great success.”
