Like-for-likes at Booker, the business Tesco has agreed to take over, edged up 1.3% in its second quarter, but tobacco sales continued to plummet.
Changes in tobacco legislation have impacted sales in the category, which were down 9.4% on a like-for-like basis in the quarter to September 8.
Like-for-likes excluding tobacco jumped 6%.
Tesco made a £3.7bn bid for Booker earlier this year, which is currently being reviewed by the Competition and Markets Authority.
Booker chief executive Charles Wilson said: “Booker Group continues to make good progress with like-for-like non-tobacco sales up 6%.
“Our plans to focus, drive and broaden Booker Group are on track. The competition review of the planned merger with Tesco is progressing. We continue to help our retail, catering and small business customers prosper through improving our choice, prices and service.”
