Tesco has started selling Jack’s-branded products in its core supermarket business for the first time as part of a fresh price salvo.
A selection of products from its discount fascia, which launched last September, will be stocked in 850 of its supermarkets from today until May 27.
Among the Jack’s products being stocked on Tesco shelves this month are 1l bottles of apple juice and orange juice, 12-packs of still mineral water, four-packs of diet lemonade and 150g bags of salt and vinegar sticks.
Tesco has rolled out eight Jack’s stores to date, following the launch of the first store in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, eight months ago.
The supermarket giant has worked with existing suppliers to create 1,800 Jack’s-branded entry-level products, in a bid to better compete with discount duo Aldi and Lidl.
Nine of those products are being stocked in Tesco stores this month. The grocery giant declined to comment on whether it could start selling Jack’s products in its core supermarket business on a regular basis.
The move comes as Tesco slashes the price of hundreds of branded and own-label products in a second wave of price investment to mark its centenary celebrations.
Margherita Pizza Express pizzas, ready-to-eat avocados, Richmond pork sausages and Cathedral City cheese are among the products that will be on offer for half price or cheaper over the coming weeks as the supermarket giant looks to emphasise its value credentials.
Last week, Tesco launched Clubcard Prices, offering members of its loyalty scheme discounts at the till on a range of products including coffee, pet food, televisions and F&F clothing items.
Tesco chief customer officer Alessandra Bellini said: “To continue the celebration of 100 years at Tesco, we’re launching a second burst of price drops on hundreds of different products to help customers get even more great value on their weekly shop.”
