The Co-operative has been offering customers the chance to pay for goods with IOUs in a Scottish town that has been without power for five days.
Staff at the grocer’s store in Campbeltown, Argyll, are allowing locals to take food and other essentials away on trust because they have been unable to access cash machines.
The 950 homes in Campbeltown have been without electricity, heating or phone lines since Friday afternoon because of extreme weather conditions.
Argyll and Bute Councillor John Semple told the Daily Record: “It’s been a really uplifting story to come out of this.”
