Iconic toys retailer Hamleys is to open its first store in Wales at St David’s in Cardiff.
Opening in November, it will be Hamleys’ third UK store, after its famous flagship on Regent Street, as well as Glasgow. It also has a store in Dublin.
The 13,000 sq ft St David’s store will be located on the ground floor of the centre adjacent to Clas Ohlson and Game.
The news comes the same week that Hamleys was acquired by French toys retailer Ludendo.
Hamleys chief executive Gudjon Reynisson said: “Hamleys is very excited to be opening in Cardiff’s St David’s Centre. Our unique retail proposition of fun, theatre and entertainment will enhance the overall offer of the centre and we look forward to working with St David’s to bring the Hamleys Experience to the people of Wales.”
Joanne Skilton, director of retail and leasing for Capital Shopping Centres, which owns the scheme alongside Land Securities, said: “Hamleys is a children’s toy paradise that is as much an experience as it is a retail offer.
“This will be a huge draw for families who can combine their shopping with a ‘treat’ for the children by way of a visit to Hamleys. Many families will come to St David’s just to visit Hamleys, making the brand a footfall driver for families in its own right.”
St David’s is advised by Cushman & Wakefield and Jones Lang LaSalle.
