Hammerson’s leasing director for new business Sheila King is to leave at the end of the month to set up her own international retail consultancy.
King holds a leading role at the property developer, and is in charge of bringing new overseas and premium brands to Hammerson’s centres. She has been at Hammerson since 1994, when she joined from Capital Shopping Centres.
At Hammerson King helped let major centres including Brent Cross, Birmingham Bullring – where Forever 21 opened its first UK store - and Spitalfields in Central London. She has also worked on Hammerson’s 60,000 sqm retail development in Marseille.
The well connected King was last year appointed to the International Council of Shopping Centres European executive board and is also chair of the European Leasing Group.
King said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been part of Hammerson’s success story. It is an opportune time for me to capitalise on my experience and relationships as retailers’ expansion strategies become global.”
