Hammerson is continuing its expansion in central Birmingham. After developing the Bullring, and as part of the Birmingham Alliance, it has now formed a partnership with the Local Authorities Mutual Investment Trust (Lamit) and local developer Midlands & City Developments to create new retail space on New Street.
Work has begun to convert Attwood House, a 1960s office block on New Street, into retail and residential space. The six-storey building will provide double height retail at the entrance to the Bullring with 52 apartments on the upper floors.
Lamit investment surveyor Robin Hill said: 'By entering into a joint venture with Hammerson we have unlocked a prime mixed-use site that will provide a seamless extension to the Bullring'.
Existing tenant Schuh will continue trading throughout the development process, and Kensington Freak will re-open in a new store this autumn.
