Landlord Hammerson has submitted its planning application for the £130m development of Victoria Gate in Leeds.
Hammerson plans to create a 1.2 million sq ft retail and leisure development in the city that will be linked to Leeds’ adjacent Grade II listed Victoria Quarter.
Its submission to Leeds City Council includes the designs for Victoria Gate arcade - with up to 30 stores, restaurants, cafes and a casino - a flagship John Lewis store, and a multi-storey car park for up to 800 cars.
Leeds City Council is set to make a decision in the autumn. If approved, construction on the development will start in spring 2014.
Victoria Gate project director Joe Swindells said: “We’re pleased to be submitting the detailed planning applications which, if determined, will be another key milestone towards getting construction underway. We are confident that we have developed the best possible scheme to help put Leeds on the map as one of the UK’s top retail destinations.”
Hammerson rival Land Securities opened its scheme in the city, Trinity Leeds, in March.
