Hawkins and Timpson appear on honours list

British Retail Consortium director general Kevin Hawkins, and John Timpson, chairman and chief executive of shoe repair chain Timpson, were both recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Hawkins was awarded an OBE for services to the food industry. The former director of communications at Safeway is also a commissioner for the Meat & Livestock Commission and has represented retail on government bodies, including Defra's Dairy Industry Forum.

Hawkins has won the respect of retailers for his media performances in support of the industry.

Timpson received a CBE for services to the retail sector. Timpson is a long-established name in the industry, having worked in the family business since 1963.
