Cosmetics retailer Space NK is warning customers not to purchase its luxury advent calendar from fake adverts for Black Friday Sales as criminals are targeting consumers with offers that are too good to be true.
The popular £250 advent calendar is currently sold out on Space NK’s website and is being touted through fake adverts on social media for £28.99.
The consumer group Which? is also warning shoppers of potential Black Friday fraudsters, saying criminals are targeting shoppers looking for advent calendars as they become more of a luxury category.
Space NK head of PR Jini Sanassy said: “We are aware that fraudulent imitations of our website are circulating on social media platforms.”
The fake adverts have been spotted on Facebook and Instagram and show large discounts on the product.
Last year, scammers advertised the £350 luxury advent calendar from perfume and beauty brand Jo Malone for just £30.
Which? consumer law expert Lisa Webb said: “Since these products can be expensive, many people will be looking for discounted and cheaper options, but it’s important to be wary of scammers trying to take advantage in the run-up to Black Friday and Christmas.”
Customers have been advised to check website URLs and report suspicious sites to the National Cyber Security Centre.
