B&Q has reached an agreement to purchase five more Homebase stores for £2.5m, following the retailer’s collapse into administration in November.
The five stores, which are located in Altrincham, Basingstoke, Biggleswade, Leamington Spa and Worcester are being snapped up in addition to the three stores in Ireland B&Q agreed to purchase in December for £3.2m.
According to the home improvement retailer, the new stores have a combined total selling area of over 25,000 sq m, and upon completion of the lease assignment, store employees will become B&Q employees.
The sale of the stores is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025/26 and will start to be converted to the B&Q banner this spring, with all expected to be converted by the end of the year.
B&Q chief executive Graham Bell said: “We’re delighted to be buying these five stores, bringing a total of eight additional sites to our fantastic store network in the UK and Ireland. We’re determined to give home improvers the choice and convenience they deserve, and to transform the home improvement stores in these locations to fulfil that need.
“It’s a great way to start 2025. We look forward to swiftly concluding these purchases and converting the stores to the B&Q brand and offer, and to welcoming our new customers to the stores and new colleagues to the B&Q family.”
Homebase collapsed into administration in November. In the UK, entrepreneur Chris Dawson’s CDS Superstores bought about 70 stores and the Homebase brand. The shops will be converted to branches of The Range.
