Homebase is launching an interior design programme that will offer people aged 16 and over qualifications in the specialism.
Students at the Homebase Interior Design and Decorating programme will work full-time at local Homebase stores in order to work with customers who are redesigning their homes.
The students will gain a City & Guilds accredited qualification in interior design and decorating and will also receive customer service training.
John Shaw, HR director at Homebase, said: “We are committed to championing our industry as a great career choice. The Academy will provide an exciting opportunity for people to make the most of their passion for putting together complete room looks, regardless of their experience.”
Homebase is also offering the incentive of a career at the company to some of those who complete the course to a satisfactory level.
The interior design academy follows on from the DIY retailer launching a gardening academy last year in collaboration with garden designer Adam Frost.
The scheme was also aimed at people aged 16 and Homebase will run it again this year and is using it as a blueprint for its interior design academy.
