Ikea has partnered with Tesco to launch click-and-collect points in the grocer’s car parks.
The Swedish homewares giant said the expansion of its Collect Near You proposition into seven Tesco car parks marked a first for the UK market.
It is currently trialling the proposition in Denmark and Portugal.
The pick-up points will allow Ikea shoppers to collect all online orders over £200 free of charge. Any orders under £200 will cost £10 to be picked up from the new collection points.
UK customers will be able to select the new fulfilment option when placing their order, choosing a designated location, date and time for the collection.
Ikea said the first of the new sites will open at Tesco’s Blackburn superstore on October 10.
Six further pilot sites will open at Tesco’s stores in Liverpool, Cambridge, Doncaster, Bolton, Dereham and Stockport before the end of the year.
The two retailers will assess the success of the trial after a six-month period.
Ikea UK and Ireland fulfilment and multichannel network manager Julie Carr said: “We are proud to be collaborating with Tesco to test and trial more convenient, accessible and affordable collection services in the UK across a number of key locations.
“This collaboration recognises that in an ever-changing retail environment there is an opportunity to work together to bring Ikea closer to many people.”
