Ikea will open its second Planning Studio format store in Bromley as part of its strategy to expand its bricks-and-mortar presence in city centres.
The Swedish retailer plans to open its latest store on Bromley High Street early next year, which will provide customers with tailored advice about their bedrooms and kitchens.
The opening follows the launch of Ikea’s first Planning Studio on Tottenham Court Road in October.
Customers will be able to browse the shop, order furniture and plan projects in their homes with the help of Ikea staff. There will also be bedroom accessories on display which customers can purchase online.
The launch of the Bromley store will form the next step in the furniture retailer’s strategy to open more shops in city centres. The approach has been developed in response to the growth of city living and changing consumer behaviour.
Ikea recorded a slump in full-year profits last month and unveiled plans to axe 7,500 jobs worldwide as it ramped up its transformation strategy.
The retailer’s city development manager Jane Bisset said: “The opening of our new Planning Studio in Bromley will mark the next exciting step in our city centre approach as we bring Ikea to the heart of urban areas in London.
“Following the successful launch of our first Planning Studio on Tottenham Court Road, we are committed to giving customers the choices they need and understand the role we can play in helping people plan bigger projects in the home.”
The business plans to open more Planning Studios across London. A new sustainable Ikea store will also open in Greenwich in early 2019.
