Booths generated a 3.5% surge in like-for-like sales across the Christmas trading period, driven by customers planning ahead.
The food retailer said it delivered a record performance in December, revealing total sales up 5.6%.
Booths said sales surged due to customers trading up on their usual product and “spending wisely”.
Booths chief operating officer Chris Dee said: “Our pre-orders were up by 58% with customers ordering in advance for the day. We made it easy to order online and collect in advance of the big day.
“We’ve been mindful that budgets have been tight and kept prices affordable without compromising premium quality. We refused to enter discounting battles over the Christmas period preferring to focus on stocking the exceptional produce our customers come to expect from Booths.
“We have a canny Northern consumer base, they keep us on our toes in terms of service, price and quality. They expect the best from Booths, and this Christmas we delivered just that.”
Booths recorded a 39% surge in smoked salmon sales, a 23% rise across vintage champagne and a 27% increase on champagne magnums which it saiddemonstrated customers’ decisions to buy better quality products.
Dee added that there was a trend for beef roasts this year with sales up 39% and speciality fish sales jumped 14%. Its new Christmas premium craft bakery mince pies were up 24% and stollen sales grew 56%.
