Retail news round-up: Footfall on UK high street declines, and Next may report drop in profit
UK high street footfall rate declines
According to data from the British Retail Consortium’s monthly Springboard monitor, footfall at retail parks declined 1.6% in February.
It was also found that shopping centres suffered a 2.6% decline in year-on-year visitor numbers.
The overall footfall across the retail sector declined 1% in February compared with a year ago.
Next to report drop in profits
Next is expected to report a 4% decline in pre-tax profits to £792m for the year to the end of January, The Belfast Telegraph reported.
Next’s chief executive Lord Wolfson has warned that the cost pressures due to Brexit could see prices rise by 5%.
Lego elects new VP and general manager
Lego has appointed Marina Edwards as new vice president and general manager for UK and Ireland, Toy News reported.
Edwards is taking the place of Fiona Wright, who has been working on an interim basis since 2016.
Edwards was previously working for Pepsico as a senior commercial director for Juices and Cereals.
