Brussels seeks more information on Amazon’s tax deals
Online retail giant Amazon has been dragged into a major EU tax crackdown after competition commission officials demanded Luxembourg hand over documents relating to its tax payments, according to a report in the FT.
An EU official told the newspaper that Brussels was looking for additional information on the nature of the tax agreement between Luxembourg and Amazon. The move could lead to a full-blown probe into the retailer’s European tax arrangements.
Shareholders in Sports Direct to vote against re-election of board members at AGM
Sports Direct’s leading shareholders are continuing their revolt by voting against the re-election of the chairman and other board members at September’s annual general meeting in protest of the multimillion-pound bonus scheme passed through this week for the founder Mike Ashley. Investors unhappy about the deal are considering coordinated action through the Association of British Insurers’ (ABI) investment committee and the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF).
Louise Cooper promoted to external communications head at John Lewis
John Lewis has promoted Louise Cooper to the newly created position of head of external communications, The Drum reported. She will oversee all areas of PR for the business, across both consumer and corporate disciplines. Most recently, Cooper has served in the role of senior manager for corporate, digital and branch PR.
