Retail news round-up on November 30, 2015: Cyber Monday spending set to jump 31% on last year and Nisa Retail chairman under pressure.
Britons to spend almost £1bn online on Cyber Monday
Cyber Monday spending in the UK is estimated to jump 31% on last year, with shoppers likely to spend almost £1bn online.
The amount spent online on Cyber Monday is expected to fall short of Black Friday's predicted spending of £1.07bn.
However, customers have been warned over scam websites and data breaches as hackers are likely to target eager bargain hunters.
Cyber security expert Dave Whitelegg said: "People scouting around for cheap deals may end up on scam websites. It's best to stick to reputable, well-known companies. If the price seems to good to be true, it usually is."
Nisa Retail chairman in ‘difficult position’ after vote defeat
Nisa Retail chairman Chris Baker is facing mounting pressure after failing to push through a governance reform at the convenience store mutual.
He fell short of the 75% majority he needed to bring in a range of improvements proposed by former City minister Lord Myners at Nisa’s annual meeting.
He proposed measures including reducing board size, increasing bid defences to provide extra protection from being taken over.
Baker insisted the 65% vote for change still gave the board a “substantial mandate”.
