Home Bargains’ online initiative to tackle in-store theft has led to more than 20 prosecutions.
In August 2009, Home Bargains launched an online campaign to identify suspected shoplifters by adding a “crime busters” tab on its website. Operations director Joe Morris said shoplifting costs the retailer millions of pounds a year.
“We’re seeing positive results. It will hopefully put others off. It’s more about the message than anything,” he said.
The section features pictures of suspected criminals in its shops along with the date and location of the alleged crime.
The the value retailer offers a reward of up to £500 for relevant information.
