Mountain Warehouse saw sales soar over the Christmas period, driven by the outdoor clothing retailer’s bricks-and-clicks strategy.
Like-for-like sales jumped 8.4% in the six weeks ended January 4 as total sales rose 19%. Online sales leapt 36.3%.
Extending its click-and-collect service, Mountain Warehouse also now offers order from store, enabling customers to order products that are out of stock in-store for free home delivery.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined to create the retailer’s busiest-ever four-day trading period. Sales jumped 33% in stores on Black Friday, while online sales soared 53% on “Cyber Sunday” to become the retailer’s biggest-ever online trading day.
“Our outstanding Christmas performance caps another excellent year for the business. I’m hugely pleased with continuing strong performance across all our channels: in our UK stores, online and internationally,” said CEO Mark Neale.
“We opened our 200th store in Inverness shortly before Christmas, and believe there is still plenty of life in the high street. The online business also continues to surpass all expectations with products being shipped to more than 100 countries. We now have 10 stores in Poland and will open our first store in Germany in the next few months. Now that winter has finally arrived, we look forward to continuing success in 2015.”
