Home Depot, the world's biggest home improvement retailer, has opened its first two-floor store in Lincoln Park, Chicago.
'Dozens' more such shops could follow, a spokesman told local press, as the retailer seeks to exploit new avenues to growth, other then traditional superstores.
The two-floor outlet is Home Depot's third 'urban format' store, carrying a product offer tailored to the needs of town dwellers.
Ranges such as applia-nces for small kitchens and 'container gardening' feature.
The store, at 7,430 sq m, is approximately half the size of a standard Home Depot store. Home Depot has more than 1,500 superstores.
The move echoes a similar strategy by UK DIY giant B&Q with its double-decker format.
