Convenience store operator Couche-Tard posted net earnings of $71m (£46m) for the third quarter ended January 30, up 29.6% from the comparable period last year. The increase was attributable to growth in merchandise and service sales, the contribution from a rising number of sites offering fuel and the growth in same-store motor fuel volume in Canada and the US.
The strengthening of the Canadian dollar as well as Couche-Tard’s sound management of its expenses also contributed. Like-for-like merchandise sales rose 3.9% in the US and 0.4% in Canada.
