Ikea’s application to enter the Indian market has been dealt a blow by the government’s Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), The Economic Times reported.
The FIPB, which approved the retailer’s application last week, has blocked Ikea from setting up its Swedish food markets or restaurants within its stores. FIPB ruled that the proposal violated the FDI policy on food retailing.
In addition, the retailer will not be allowed to offer financing to suppliers and customers, sell used furniture or mail newsletters to customers.
