Grupo Pão de Açúcar is to convert 170 CompreBem and Sendas supermarkets to a new fascia Extra Supermercados, by the end of 2011. 16 stores have already been converted, comprising 10 CompreBem in São Paulo and six Sendas in Rio de Janeiro.
The retailer plans to convert 61 stores by the end of this year. A heavier focus will be placed on perishable foods, including fresh fruit and vegetables, bakery and butchery counters, as well as other everyday items. Some stores will have cafes.
