German-based Lidl is negotiating to buy land for future stores. Lidl says it is looking to begin operations in major cities.
In 2002 Lidl purchased land in Lithuania for new stores, but began to sell the plots in 2006. By January 2011 it had sold 21 out of the 28 plots. The chain has also liquidated two of its Lithuanian companies, Lidl Holding and Lidl Investicijos, leaving only Lidl.
